He has always had a genuine passion for the welfare of cows and ensuring they get the best treatment leading to high production and improving profitability. We understand farmers and their needs, particularly in the current economic climate. Happy Hooves provides a quality and affordable foot trimming service to farmers which focuses on the welfare of cows and the impact this has on the productivity of the farms we service.
Routine hoof trimming is proven to prevent lameness in cattle and for this to be most efficient it is recommended cows are trimmed at least once a year. This increases the profitability of that animal not only improving milk production, but also in fertility, further maximising returns for the farmer.
As heavy animals, if the hoof isn’t trimmed on a routine basis their feet can become overgrown or out of balance. As cows are expected to walk on uneven and stoney ground this puts excess pressure on the foot, affecting weight and therefore cause abnormalities with the hoof. This could be an ulcer from pressures of the bones within the foot on the ground or abnormalities of the white line, causing on open wound and possibly an infection.
